Effective October 1 of each year, CMS updates the current diagnosis code set as required by HIPAA. As Jerry Tavolino explains below, this update will require all providers to pay close attention to the ICD-10 codes included in their billing, claims submissions, and other information systems to ensure compliance with Medicare coverage policies, HIPAA standardized code-set requirements, and numerous other provisions included in applicable Medicare manuals. Now is the time to make sure your organization has effective plans in place to load these changes into the system(s) you are using to submit claims to Medicare.
