CodeMap® 07/28/2021: 2019 OIG Report of Laboratory Payments

CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: July 28, 2021

Editor's Welcome:

In late December 2020, the Office of Inspector General of the DHHS (OIG) published its annual report concerning Medicare payments for clinical laboratory services made in 2019. Pursuant to PAMA, the OIG must analyze and report on the top 25 tests, based on Medicare expenditures, annually. Today, we will examine this report and the utilization trends the OIG discovered for 2019 laboratory testing. The most interesting conclusion made in the report is that Medicare spending for clinical laboratory testing actually increased despite the payment amount decreases caused by PAMA. As always, please forward any questions, suggestions, or comments to us via email.
