Editor's Welcome: CLIA waived nucleic acid based assays are now available for several commonly performed infectious agents including Streptococcus A, Influenza A and B, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). These tests can be performed in point of care (POC) settings and provide highly accurate results for patients while they are seeing their physicians. Such results can be particularly useful when treating pediatric patients and can aid in determining if antibiotic treatment is warranted. Today, we will discuss how providers should code and report these procedures, and the resultant payment from Medicare.
