Recently, we have heard from numerous subscribers concerning the need to include physician signatures on requisitions. Many of these inquiries appear to have resulted from interactions with Medicare contractors responsible for claims processing and post-payment audits. According to our loyal readers, some of these contractors mistakenly believe that the Medicare program requires a physician signature on all requisitions. In addition, we have heard readers describe communications with contractors where the contractors have indicated that any claims paid for services performed pursuant to requisitions without physician signatures represent overpayments and/or false claims.
