In most years, CMS updates the current diagnosis code set, required by HIPAA, on October 1. However, aside from the major transition last year to ICD-10, CMS has not offered a full update for many years to allow providers to prepare for the ICD-10 diagnosis code transition. For the first time since 2011, CMS is implementing a full diagnosis code update on October 1, 2016. This week, our Chief Information Officer, Jerry Tavolino, will discuss this development.
