On June 9, 2015, the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services (OIG) issued a new fraud alert concerning physician compensation arrangements. This latest alert comes on the heels of another OIG Fraud Alert published last summer concerning laboratories providing compensation to referring physicians. Often, the OIG goes years without issuing a new alert. Two fraud alerts in less than a year clearly indicates that the OIG is very concerned about financial arrangements between health care providers and their referring physicians.
