Friday Compliance Briefing - Critical Year End Dates

As the end of the year approaches, there are a number of critical dates to keep in mind regarding Medicare and your compliance plan. Some important items such as the physician fee schedule have been delayed, but other implementation dates will require attention in the near future. Because of the Thanksgiving holidays, there will be no Friday Compliance Briefing next week. In the next issue on December 6th, we will continue our discussion of the new codes and Medicare policy regarding pap smears, stem harvesting and the ever popular Gap-Fill process for pricing new laboratory tests.
CRITICAL DATES
November 25, 2002: New National Coverage Determinations Become Effective
Make sure you have the right CPT to ICD-9 linkages to avoid denials. The new NCDs will impact up to 70% of the total tests performed in a typical lab.
January 1, 2003: New 2003 CPT Codes Become Effective
Medicare allows a three month grace period, until April 1....
