Last week, we explored how many laboratories will need to revise their policies and procedures concerning patients' requests for test results. Recent changes to both the CLIA and HIPAA regulations now require laboratories to report such results directly to patients, when they request this information. We also discussed how HIPAA will require laboratories to amend their Notice of Privacy Practices to accommodate this significant change. What some providers may have missed, however, is that another change in federal regulations will soon require clinical laboratories to make additional changes to their Notice of Privacy Practices.
