As we discussed last week, CMS has proposed major changes to laboratory test reimbursements starting as early as 2014. The 2014 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) Proposed Rule includes a proposal to review and revise the amounts paid for all tests currently on the Medicare Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedule (CLFS) starting with calendar year 2015. In addition, the Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) Proposed Rule includes the proposed bundling of many outpatient laboratory tests into a single facility payment, much like the inpatient DRG.
