CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: 11/19/2010
Editor's Welcome:
Last week, we discussed the OIG's 2011 Work Plan which included an item concerning the unbundling of laboratory tests. Specifically, the OIG expressed concerns that providers were inappropriately unbundling panels of automated tests by "submitting claims for multiple dates of service or by drawing specimens on sequential days." We agreed with the OIG that if providers were submitting claims as described above the practice would represent a violation of the Civil False Claims Act. The responses we received from our subscribers prompted us to revisit the issues surrounding Medicare coding and reimbursement of panels containing automated tests. Based on the questions we received, we are reviewing these rules and policies in today's CodeMap® Compliance Briefing.
Sincerely,
Gregory Roo....
