CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: 3/19/2010


Editor's Welcome:

We previously discussed MUEs, or Medically Unlikely Edits, in a number of CodeMap® Compliance Briefings. On January 8, 2010, CMS issued further instructions regarding how MUEs are used to deny claims, and how providers may submit claims for medically necessary units of service which exceed a MUE. These new rules become effective April 5, 2010, and will hopefully result in uniform treatment of these edits by all Medicare contractors. In light of these new instructions, today's briefing will once again revisit the issue of MUEs. As always, please feel fee to email any questions, comments, or suggestions.
