CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: 10/15/2009
Editor's Welcome:
Recent legislation includes amendments to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). This week, we will discuss three aspects of the HIPAA amendments that directly affect providers of diagnostic services; breach notification requirements, business associate obligations, and increased enforcement resources. Many of these provisions concern HIPAA security regulations, and many provider organizations have been slow to fully comply with these requirements. However, increased enforcement resources may encourage more organizations to make HIPAA security rule compliance a bigger priority. As always, please send your comments, questions, and suggestions via email.
Sincerely,
Gregory Root, Esq.
