CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: 8/28/2009

Editor's Welcome:

In the last CodeMap Compliance Briefing, we discussed how new CPT codes are created. This week, we will examine how Medicare sets the reimbursement amounts for new laboratory codes. Providers and manufacturers of diagnostic equipment and services need to understand this process because one of the the primary reasons for requesting a new CPT code is often to secure better reimbursement. The process is also important because many private payers base their reimbursement rates at a percentage of what Medicare pays. As always, please forward any questions, comments, or suggestions via email.

Sincerely,

Gregory Root, Esq.
