CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: 8/14/2009

Editor's Welcome:

Last week, we discussed the new CPT and HCPCS codes that will be included in the 2010 Medicare Laboratory Fee Schedule. As promised, this week we will examine how new CPT codes are created. The process can be complex, time-consuming, and literally take years. Before anyone requests a new CPT code, they should understand the entire process including the potential obstacles. Next week, we will conclude our discussion with an explanation of yet another lengthy and complex process, making sure a new code is assigned an appropriate Medicare reimbursement amount by CMS. As always, please forward any questions, comments, or suggestions via email.

Sincerely,

Gregory Root, Esq.
