This week's briefing will revisit an issue we covered once before in 2004, providing discounts to financially needy patients. The issue may be more relevant than ever considering recent developments with our nation's economy and the financial hardships that many patients may now be facing.
On June 24, 2004, the Chief Counsel to the Inspector General testified before Congress concerning discounts and compliance with federal rules and regulations. In particular the testimony concerned compliance with the Federal Anti-Kickback Statute, the OIG's exclusion authority prohibiting excessive charges, and the Civil Monetary Penalties provisions that prohibit inducements to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.
