CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: 10/01/2008
Editor's Welcome:
Today's CodeMap Compliance Briefing will hopefully bring clarity to two confusing issues that developed in the past year. In 2008, diagnostic providers were bewildered by conflicting directives and communications from CMS and its contractors concerning; one, whether or not a physician's signature is required on an order for laboratory procedures; and two, which LCDs a hospital laboratory should follow, Part A or Part B, considering many hospital laboratories perform services for both Part A and Part B beneficiaries. This is the type of briefing we enjoy publishing, because, as is rarely the case, there appears to be clear cut answers to both questions. As always, please continue to email your comments, questions, and suggestions for future briefings.
