CodeMap® Compliance Briefing: 3/14/2008
Editor's Welcome:
Recently, CMS announced the implementation of a new Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN). Even the name of the form has changed to Advanced Beneficiary Notice of Non-Coverage to more clearly communicate its purpose. The new ABN (CMS-R-131) replaces the existing forms CMS-R-131-G for general use, and CMS-R-131-L for clinical laboratory tests and procedures. Providers may begin using the form as early as March 3, 2008, and must begin using the form no later than September 1, 2008. This week we discuss some of the major changes to the ABN form and how providers must deliver the notice to Part B Medicare beneficiaries. Please be advised that we are expanding our next CodeMap TeleConference scheduled for April 16, to include a detailed examination of the new form and its appropriate use.
Sincerely,
Gregory Root, Esq.
