Most providers understand the rules and regulations concerning Advance Beneficiary Notices (ABNs) and their use. Over the past few years, more and more providers are obtaining ABNs and billing patients, in the event Medicare denies the claim. This week we will discuss some of the practices and developments we have observed concerning ABNs and billing Medicare beneficiaries. This briefing will begin with a summary discussion of the rules and regulations governing the use of effective ABNs, and conclude with an analysis of common practices that have developed in recent years.
