CodeMap Compliance Briefing: 2/3/2006
Editor's Welcome:
The final refresher course in our three part series concerns regulatory compliance programs. The last two CodeMap Compliance Briefings demonstrated that the rules and regulations governing participation in federally funded health care programs are complex and often confusing. The Office of Inspector General (OIG) began publishing compliance program guidance in 1997 to help providers cope with the regulatory environment. Compliance programs are a systematic approach to recognizing, managing, and ultimately complying with the myriad of laws, rules, and regulations of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. All providers of diagnostic services should seriously consider creating and maintaining an effective compliance program.
