CodeMap Compliance Briefing: 09/23/05

Editor's Welcome:

Each year manufacturers develop more and more test kits and instruments that meet the requirements of a waived test under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). All types of providers, from small physician practices to larger clinics and hospitals, are now performing waived testing as an efficient and convenient way to deliver point of care testing. This week, Dr. Charles Root will discuss two important issues concerning waived testing. First, he will describe the process by which waived tests are assigned CPT codes and associated Medicare reimbursement amounts. To conclude this week's CodeMap Compliance Briefing, Dr. Root will remind providers of the importance of complying with the relaxed standards governing the performance of CLIA waived tests.

Sincerely,

Gregory Root, Esq.
