This week we will discuss the Place of Service (POS) codes used on Medicare claims. While these codes usually are the same for all claims from a given provider, pathologists, radiologists, and other physicians who perform services in their offices as well as other facilities must be careful to use the correct POS codes to avoid overpayments and potential false claims liability. The Medicare physician fee schedule includes two payment amounts depending on whether a service is performed in a facility setting or a non-facility setting.
