CodeMap Compliance Briefing: 02/11/05
Editor's Welcome:
On January 27, 2005, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) published its Supplemental Compliance Program Guidance for Hospitals in final form. You will remember we discussed the draft supplement in June of last year. The supplemental guidance is not intended to replace existing compliance program guidance for hospitals, but rather supplement the earlier guidance with more in-depth compliance program recommendations and an expanded discussion of particular risk areas. The recently published final guidance offers significant insight into the compliance issues that concern the federal government the most. Over the next few weeks we will examine in detail some of the risk areas identified by the OIG's supplemental guidance for hospitals. This week we will discuss the compliance issues concerning relationships with Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries included in the supplemental guidance.
