Editor's Welcome,

Today we will discuss Medicare's new diabetes screening benefit. This new benefit complements the cardiovascular screening and "Welcome to Medicare" physical examination covered in previous briefings. Details on all of these preventive services may be found in the 2005 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule.

The last Compliance Briefing on flow cytometry resulted in numerous questions which we will address in the near future.  Please keep the questions and comments coming, they are very helpful and always welcome.

Which Beneficiaries Will Be Eligible for Coverage?

Beginning January 1, 2005, Medicare will cover diabetes screening tests for individuals with any of the following risk factors:

• Hypertension;
• Dyslipidemia;
