In response to a number of questions, this week we will discuss the codes and rules pertaining to travel allowances. Subject to certain rules and restrictions, Medicare will reimburse travel expenses when laboratory personnel travel to patient locations to collect specimens. Medicare Travel Allowances for Specimen Collection from Nursing Home and Homebound Patients
Medicare will reimburse for both specimen collection and travel when it is medically necessary for a laboratory technician to draw a specimen from either a nursing home or homebound patient. The technician must personally draw the specimen.
