Collection of Medicare Secondary Payer Information for Hospital Reference Laboratory Specimens
At present, hospital labs must verify secondary coverage for all specimens received for Medicare patients, even when the specimen arrives by courier and no contact is made with the patient. Under a provision of the new Medicare Reform Bill, hospitals will no longer be required to complete a Medicare secondary payer(MSP) information form when diagnostic tests are furnished without a face-to-face encounter with the patient.
